My Journey to Understanding My Body’s Signal
It’s been an intense experience, this process of resetting my whole life and body. I’ve been so inspired by the incredible capacity our bodies have to change, grow, and evolve. It truly amazes me how we journey through life, becoming wiser and more in tune with ourselves. However, I’ve also come to realise that this journey isn’t always smooth. As we navigate life’s changes, our bodies can sometimes develop new sensitivities or reactions that can be difficult to understand and even painful to adjust to.
Suddenly, we find ourselves facing questions like: ‘What foods are now triggering this bloating or discomfort? What lifestyle changes are impacting my energy levels? How can I best support my hormonal balance, which seems to shift and change?’ I think many women can relate to the feeling that understanding our bodies is a lifelong, complex, and often demanding job. Honestly, being a woman can feel like a complex puzzle.
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that our bodies are in constant communication with us. These signals might manifest as fatigue, digestive issues, skin problems, or mood changes. These signals are either gently nudging us to slow down, prioritise rest, and address imbalances, or encouraging us to maintain our healthy habits and keep nurturing our well-being. It’s crucial to learn how to interpret these signals.
For years, I personally struggled with ongoing bloating, frustrating hormonal imbalances, and that feeling of constant fatigue. These challenges fueled my curiosity to explore alternative and personalised approaches to wellness. That’s what ultimately led me to discover hair testing. I was searching for a way to gain deeper, more personalised insights into the unique sensitivities of my body, including a clearer picture of my hormonal landscape. I wanted to move beyond generalised advice and truly understand my individual needs.

The Hair Testing Process
What to Expect: A Step-by-Step Guide to Hair Analysis
So, let’s dive into what hair testing actually is and what the process looks like.
Essentially, hair testing, like the one I tried, uses a fascinating technique called Bioresonance Testing to uncover your body’s sensitivities. Now, I know that might sound a bit technical, but it’s actually quite simple. Think of it this way: everything in the world, including your hair, has its own unique energy or electromagnetic frequency. Bioresonance Testing analyses these frequencies to see how your hair sample reacts to the frequencies of different substances. It’s like having a conversation with your body on an energetic level!
To put it even more simply, imagine that every food, environmental factor, or even metal has its own ‘energy signature.’ This test measures how your hair sample responds when it’s exposed to those signatures. If there’s a significant reaction or imbalance, it can indicate a potential sensitivity. The whole process is non-invasive, which is a huge plus, and it can provide some really valuable insights into your individual needs.
It’s important for me to add a little disclaimer here: There are many different types of sensitivity tests out there, and they don’t all test the same things or use the same technology. The one I used, and will share more about later, was particularly comprehensive, testing for over 1200 sensitivities!
To give you an idea, hair testing can assess sensitivities to a wide range of things, including:
- Food and drinks (e.g., dairy, gluten, specific fruits)
- Metals (e.g., nickel, mercury)
- Vitamins (e.g., Vitamin B deficiencies)
- Hormonal imbalances (e.g., estrogen, cortisol)
- Gut health (e.g., candida, leaky gut markers)
- Digestion (e.g., enzyme deficiencies)
- Sleep hormones (e.g., melatonin)
- Stress and inflammation (e.g., cortisol levels)
- Skin health (e.g., specific allergens)
- And much more!
This type of testing aims to provide a personalised snapshot of your body’s unique reactions. It’s important to remember that while hair testing can offer valuable clues, it’s always best to discuss your results with a qualified healthcare practitioner to develop a comprehensive wellness plan.
Now that we’ve covered the hair testing process, let’s move on to what I discovered from my own results.

My Test Results: The Big Reveal
What My Hair Revealed: A Breakdown of My Test Outcomes
This is where things got really interesting! I finally received my detailed report, and honestly, it was a bit of a rollercoaster. It felt like my body was finally speaking up and telling me its secrets! I’m going to focus on a few key areas that stood out to me, particularly because of my experience with fibroids: my hormonal balance, gut health, and sleep hormones.
Please Note: Just to be clear, these are my personal test results. The report provides an analysis of my specific hair sample, as indicated in the testing information.

Hormonal Imbalance: The Fibroid Connection
As many of you know, I’ve been dealing with fibroids, among other things, and one of the biggest things I’ve learned is that hormones play a major role in their growth. So, I was particularly interested to see what the report revealed about my hormone levels.
It showed that two key hormones, “Luteinizing Hormone” and “Oestradiol,” were outside the normal range. Did you know the other Hormone Imbalances:

My Report – List of Hormone Imbalance
This was a bit of a lightbulb moment for me! It helped me connect the dots and understand why I might be experiencing certain symptoms like PCOS, weight changes, irregular periods, mood swings, and even the possibility of early menopause. (Crazy right?) It’s frustrating because these symptoms can also be linked to my fibroids and are common in many women’s health issues.
One of the main reasons I wanted to do this test was to get a clearer picture of my hormone levels. Given that fibroids are so sensitive to hormones, especially estrogen, seeing that my “Luteinizing Hormone” and “Oestradiol” levels were outside the normal range really emphasised how crucial it is for me to address this imbalance.
In fact, the report highlighted significant hormonal imbalances, particularly with “Luteinizing Hormone” and “Oestradiol” stimulates the ovaries to produce progesterone because hormones are such a primary driver in fibroid development, this was a really significant finding. It helped me understand why my symptoms might be flaring up and validated my desire to find answers.

Gut Health
My Gut Health: The Unsung Hero
What I didn’t fully expect was the extent to which my gut health might be playing a role in my overall well-being, especially considering my hormone imbalances and fibroids. The report showed that I had some imbalances in my gut bacteria, with a lot of strains falling outside the normal range. This was surprising, because an overgrowth of certain bacteria in the gut can actually damage and cause long-term problems if not addressed.
Did you know there’s a whole world of different bacteria living in our gut? My report included an analysis of different types, such as:

My Report – Gut Health
Interestingly, my report revealed that my gut health levels were more significant than I initially thought. It turned out that a large number of the different bacteria types tested were indicated as “outside the normal range”. For example, Lactobacillus acidophilus, which is often praised as a “good” bacteria, showed a harmful growth pattern in my case. This highlights that it’s not just about having “good” bacteria, but also about the balance and the specific strains.
This is all incredibly important because an unhealthy gut can contribute to systemic inflammation throughout the body. This inflammation can then act like a domino effect, affecting hormone levels and potentially worsening fibroid symptoms. It’s all connected – the gut, the hormones, the fibroids – and it’s both fascinating and a bit frustrating how interconnected everything is!
My gut health results from the report were a bit of a surprise, to be honest. I discovered some significant imbalances that could be indirectly influencing my hormones and, consequently, my fibroids. It’s amazing (and sometimes overwhelming) how vital the gut is to our overall health, including our hormonal balance, mood, and even our immune system.
Make sure you take care of your gut health, eat rich healthy fats and not harm your body anymore.

Sleep Hormones
Sleep Hormones: The Missing Piece
Another crucial piece of the puzzle was my sleep hormones. I was relieved to see that the report showed my sleep hormone levels were perfect. Specifically, my melatonin levels were great. This was a pleasant surprise!

My Report – Sleep Hormones
However, it also highlighted that while this part of my hormonal profile was good, the imbalances in other hormones, as discussed earlier, still have a big impact on my overall hormonal balance. This just goes to show how complex hormonal health is! And as we know, hormones are so important for us women.
Sleep is incredibly important for hormone regulation. When we don’t get enough quality sleep, it can throw our hormones out of balance, which can then affect a wide range of things, including fibroid symptoms.
My sleep hormone results, while positive in this case, emphasised another important connection. It reinforced the idea that consistent, quality sleep is crucial for hormonal health, which in turn can influence fibroid growth and symptoms. Of course, many other factors can also disrupt sleep, such as stress, anxiety, depression, and excessive caffeine or sugar intake.

My Personal Takeaways
What I Learned: Key Reflections on My Hair Testing Experience
Taking a step back and looking at the bigger picture, this hair testing experience has given me a lot to think about. It’s like my body has been whispering secrets, and this test has finally helped me hear them more clearly. For so long, I’d been experiencing these persistent symptoms – the digestive discomfort, the unexplained fatigue – and I’d often dismissed them. But this test made me realise that they were valuable clues, pointing to underlying imbalances.
One of the main things I’ve learned is just how interconnected everything is. I knew my hormones were a factor in my health challenges, but I didn’t fully appreciate how much my gut health and sensitivities were also playing a role. It’s like trying to manage fatigue without looking at hormonal imbalances, you have to address the whole system. For example, I’d been experiencing ongoing fatigue, and I’d attributed it solely to stress. However, the test revealed a sensitivity to certain food and drinks like processed food and sugar-sweetened beverages, which can actually contribute to inflammation and energy dips.
It was both validating and a bit overwhelming to see in black and white what my body had been trying to tell me. It presented a whole new set of challenges to address. There was also a bit of frustration in realising how long I’ve been overlooking some of these underlying issues. Ultimately, it’s given me a renewed sense of motivation to take a more proactive approach.
My immediate plan is to start eliminating the specific food or additive slowly and focus on incorporating more gut-healing foods into my diet.
This journey has also solidified my passion for women’s health. As I’m currently training to become a nutritionist, I’m committed to using my knowledge and experience to support other women. I know this isn’t going to be an overnight transformation. It’s going to require patience and consistency. I’m committed to making these changes and seeing how they impact my overall well-being.
Above all, this experience has underscored the importance of self-awareness. It’s about paying attention to those gentle nudges, being willing to investigate further, and not settling for feeling ‘just okay’ or ‘it will go away’.
I hope my journey inspires you to become more curious about your own body and its unique needs. We all deserve to feel our best, and sometimes, it takes a little digging to uncover what’s holding us back.
