Nourishing Your Flow: Why Your Gut is the Secret to Hormonal Balance

by | Feb 9, 2026 | Health, Journal, Personal Growth, Wellness

For a long time, I didn’t realise that my gut was more than just where my food went; it was actually the “exit door” for my hormones. Following my open myomectomy to remove my fibroids, my healing journey became much more intense as I began to navigate gut issues. Consequently, I had to reconnect these gut issues with my hormonal balance to nourish a better flow through the “second brain.” Because most women aren’t taught about this connection, I’m here to show you how to understand your cycles better and nourish them with love.

To begin, this is going to be a journaling moment. Specifically, I invite you to start journaling each moment you feel “off”, this could be anything at all. Simply write it down and review your week; if you see a pattern, then go to your local GP and speak about this. On the other hand, you can always DM me, and I can help you with other suggestions.

Next, we are going to walk through a “Center Check-In” and a deep dive into your “Second Brain.” These are practical steps designed to help you take action and understand the root of your health problems.

Welcome Home (A Body Check-in)

Step 1: Welcome Home (A Body Check-in)

Before we look at the science, we must look inwards because healing always begins with presence. Ideally, you can do this at home in a quiet, peaceful place. To start, close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Afterward, describe how your stomach or gut feels right now. Instead of overthinking, just use one word or a short sentence. Even if you prefer using bullet points, that is a perfectly valid part of the process.

Tip: Write this word at the top of your journal page. Is it tight? Heavy? Calm? Bubbling? Essentially, this is your body’s current baseline. Furthermore, hold on to that feeling, as we are going to answer deeper journaling prompts later and keep them safe for another day.

Meet Your ‘Second’ Brain

Step 2: Meeting Your “Second Brain” – The Estrobolome

To help you, I will make this science very easy to understand.

Why does your gut matter so much for your hormones? Ultimately, it all comes down to a specific set of bacteria called the Estrobolome. Although our second brain sends us constant signs, we often tend to ignore them. Moreover, signals are constantly sent from our brains to our womb to our gut. In short, it’s all connected.

  • The Exit Door: Your gut acts as the primary exit door for hormones.
  • The Estrobolome Job: These bacteria are responsible for clearing out excess estrogen from your system.
  • Why It Matters: If your gut is “sluggish,” that exit door stays closed. As a result, instead of leaving the body, estrogen can be reabsorbed into your system, potentially feeding conditions like fibroids.

Nourish Your Flow

Step 3: Healing Practices to Nourish Your Flow

In order to keep that “exit door” open and support your Estrobolome, you can incorporate these daily healing practices:

  • Fiber as a “Broom”: Use vibrant, nutrient-dense foods as a daily “broom” to sweep out excess hormones.
  • Bitter for the Liver: Additionally, bitter foods help your body start its natural hormone-clearing cycle.
  • Warmth for Digestion: Honor your body’s rhythm by choosing cooked, soothing meals. This is because warmth provides a gentler environment for digestion compared to cold or raw foods.
  • The Power of Slow: Finally, slow down and enjoy each bite, allowing your mind and body to sync up.

The Honest Conversation

Step 4: The Honest Conversation (Journaling Session)

Now, open your journal for a private conversation with yourself. Remember, there is no right or wrong way to do this; simply write honestly and pause whenever you need to.

Journal Prompts for Your Reflection:

  1. Release the Noise: How do I truly feel after eating? Is my relationship with food characterized by stress, or does it serve as a source of nourishment?
  2. Uncover the Protection: When my gut feels uncomfortable, what might it be saying about my current pace or stress levels?
  3. The Voice of Love: Write a 3-sentence promise to yourself to nourish your body with one specific “broom” (like more fiber or water) this week.

Nurture Your Affirmation

Step 5: Affirmations for Nurturing Growth

As you close your journal, carry these heart affirmations with you to remind yourself that you are a safe space:

“I choose to nourish my body with love.”

“I honour my body’s rhythm today and always.”

“I am a safe and gentle home for myself.”

“I believe in my unique journey and choices.”

Healing is Better Together

Ultimately, healing is a journey of gratitude and patience. Whether you are recovering from surgery or simply trying to find balance, remember that you don’t have to do it alone. After all, healing is always better together.

Additionally, we are having our “Her Power Evening: Reconnecting With Yourself” on 14th Feb. To all the girls who are spending time alone, just know I’ve got you covered. During this event, we will be sitting down and having a conversation about self-care, self-love, and more.
